Cop Shop Reunion Show Sat. May 19th

This May will be the 3 year anniversary of The Cop Shop closing its doors. Opened in 2000 the store quickly became Long Islands mecca for hip hop culture. Thousands of hip hop fans & hundreds of well known artists all made there way to the store. The Cop Shop brought there customers closer to the culture, broke stereotypes & provided endless memories. From meeting your favorite artist, to watching a free show, or rocking on The Cop Shop stage for those involved it was a special time. True hip hop fans felt at home being in a store that stood for them. And through the years that small location had a big impact. Months away from there 10 year anniversary the store was finally forced to close due to the harsh reality of music retail. Yet to this day The Cop Shop name still holds weight. What started as a store became a Long Island hip hop movement. And that is something that will never change. We are proud to reconnect with everyone at this one night special event. As expected there will be plenty of quality Artists & DJ’s paying tribute to the store. But the highlight for us is just to have all the true Cop Shoppers back in one room for the night. This event is for anyone who ever walked through the door at 77 west main street or took pride in OUR store. In the words of a Long Island legend Rakim ” It’s been a long time ” COP SHOP 3 YEAR REUNION 5/19 @ HALO LOUNGE – SMITHTOWN

John Robinson’s MPC Beat Tape Circa.2004

Listen Here

I remember the day crystal clear… It was a summer day in July 04′ and I was visiting Atlanta on business from Los Angeles where I was residing at the time. I was working in Upstairs Studios w/ DOOM putting the finishing touches on our collaboration record “Who is This Man?” w/ Engineer Morgan Garcia…Taking a Break I decided to go to Guitar Center to grab some new Head Phones and some other miscellaneous items. Long Story short I bought the MPC 1000 during that trip and fell in love with the fact that it was sooo portable at the time…

Back at the lab our mission was accomplished, The Who is this Man? LP was completed and I was headed back to Sunny Los Angeles with a new Gadget to break in…

This is the J.R. MPC Beat Tape Circa.2004 which are some of the first Beats I made when I first got back home to LA.

Hope you all Enjoy…
Thanks for listening…

Project: Mooncircle, as the name reveals, has been on a journey to the moon since day one, exploring the frontiers of music and art, always looking for new discoveries and giving a different perspective to look at the earth. In it’s 10 year history the label has published roughly 100 releases by equally as many artists from all corners of this globe and, therefore, the selection of sounds on this compilation represents the development of the label from the past, present and going into the future.

Some of the artists featured on this compilation have been a part of the label from its very beginning, like CYNE, Manuvers and Jahbitat, whose song will be the last one he produced and published under this moniker, while others, like Robot Koch, fLako and Long Arm, are outstanding examples of its growing popularity and success. Furthermore, the box also features an exceptional selection of close musical friends and inspirational artists like Jehst, Dday One, Kwala and Ichiro_, just to name a few.

The logo and artwork represent someone who was very close to the label, especially in the early years but unfortunately passed on and whom this box is dedicated to. Featured on the compilation are artists such as Mike Slott x Diane Badié, CYNE, Sweatson Klank aka Take, Jahbitat, Robot Koch, fLako, Jehst, Beat Butcha, Long Arm, Kelpe, Pavel Dovgal, Blossom, Daisuke Tanabe, Dday One, Inner Science, Substantial, Arts The Beatdoctor, Rain Dog, Kidkanevil + Microkorg by Dorian Concept, John Robinson, Sorrow, Rumpistol, The Red Baron, Christoph El’ Truento, 40 Winks, Sina., 1000Names, DZA, Ichiro_, EAN, Tom Dicicco, Headshotboyz, Graciela Maria, Gards From KC, Sekuoia of Kilimanjaro, Sense of The Q4, Sneaky, I.V.A., Empt, John LaMonica, Mike Gao, Bambooman, Manuvers, Krts, Kwala, Soosh, Memotone, Sun Glitters, Called Understandable Souls & Szenario.

The limited box includes 2 white & 2 black vinyl LP’s with 32 tracks, 13 additional digital bonus tracks, a T-shirt (only at hhv) and a poster (with digital download code) all in a specially designed box that features a special light-reflecting varnish, which makes this truly a collectors and music lovers item.

John Robinson – Brilliant Soundscapes Vol. 1

So after many years of being under the study of Beat-Making John Robinson has finally decided to let the rest of the world hear what he creates outside of writing lyrics and working with various other producers around the world. “My beats are very personal to me, they are like therapy for whenever I am not writing. It is another outlet to express myself creatively.” says J.R. when asked why he hasn’t put his beats out there sooner.

There’s a new voice on the saxophone, forged in the gritty steel town of Pittsburgh. Her name is Chelsea Baratz, and at 24, her soulful sound is a fiery combination of bebop swing and hip-hop hooks. Innovative and ear-bending with a sizzling originality to her horn, Baratz’s music is heartfelt, simple in its power to bridge quiet moments with bursts of fiery improvisation. When she picks up her saxophone, the soul of her own life comes alive.

In addition to working under her own name, Baratz maintains a busy schedule, performing and recording with The Maurice Brown Effect, Nicholas Payton, Orrin Evans, Chris Rob, the Revive Da Live Big Band, Mobetta & Soul’d U Out, Om’mas Keith, and Sean Jones & the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. On Baratz’s debut album, In Faith (2009), her inventive sound and vibe carry forward the past echoes of Pittsburgh’s gospel, blues, and soul heritage into the present day. Displaying the young artist’s strong roots in the jazz tradition while incorporating influences from R&B, hip-hop, gospel, contemporary jazz, and blues, the album testifies to why Skope Magazine has twice named Baratz as an Artist 2 Watch.

Robot Robinson

Robot Koch + John Robinson = Robot Robinson

From a laments perspective you can call this Jahcoozi’s Robot Koch meets Scienz of Life’s John Robinson. However we here at Project: Mooncircle like to see this as two dynamic forces of nature coming together in parallel universes, delivering cosmic opted sonics with science-fiction narrative conventions in a metaphysical tone. Robot Robinson is the FUTURE from Earth to Mars to Venus to Jupiter and Beyond, this project spells out the attempts to bring a different pitch of vocals to the world of Electronic Music. Robinson being no stranger to the scientifical lyrical approach along with Robot’s evolutionary voyage prone soundscapes this one is a sure shot! The Future of Music is in Good Hands.

All tracks produced by Robot Koch. All lyrics by John Robinson. Artwork and original paintings by Ima One (Japan). Design by Gordon Gieseking.
